AIM
This competency standard covers the maintenance, preparation and operation of hand-held chainsaws in a work environment.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Anyone who is required to operate a chainsaw as part of their job role.
CONTENT
- Recognise and apply workplace safety procedures
- Check and maintain chainsaw
- Operate chainsaw
- Complete and check chainsaw operation
OUTCOMES
- Apply skills and knowledge to cross-cut fallen timber
- Identify cutting techniques to maximise volume and quality recovery
- Comply with mandatory codes of practice and relevant legislation to safely operate chainsaws in the workplace along with duty of care to self, others and the environment
ASSESSMENT
Written test and practical assessment during the course.
FURTHER TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
The course is aligned with a national unit of competence and therefore can contribute to completion of a qualification if required..
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Other Information:
- Dress requirements pertaining to OH&S legislation are mandatory for participation in the course
- Steel capped boots, gloves for handling chainsaw bars and chains, safety glasses, leg protection (chaps), helmet with optional visor and ear muffs must be worn. Failure to comply will result in personnel not being able to participate
