To meet the mandatory statutory requirements for the endorsement of persons who operate Satellite Communications equipment in the Marine Industry.
To provide the required theoretical knowledge and practical instruction in the principles and operation of Marine Satellite Communications Systems and equipment.
This course meets the requirements of STCW95 and is AMSA approved.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Those interested in effective use and knowledge of SATCOM systems and equipment.
CONTENT
SATCOM training and use.
- Overview of Inmarsat Systems (Satcom C) and the associated equipment and services
- Practical demonstrations and exercises on ‘live to air’ and simulated equipment including:
- Log-in/log-out
- Manual position and update of vessels
- Ship to shore
- Ship to ship
- Set up of priority calls
- Set up and use of special purpose access codes
- Set up and use of enhanced group calling (SafetyNet) for the reception of Maritime Safety Information (MSI)
- Set up a Performance Verification Test (PVT)
- Practical use of Inmarsat equipment (Satcom C) in both live to air and simulated mode, including exercises, tests and examination
- Theory and use of 406 MHz EPIRBs
- The function and use of Search And Rescue Radar Transponders (SARTs)

SATCOM Endorsement Certificate
ASSESSMENT
Written examination (provided by Australian Communications Authority)

Prerequisites:
- Participants must have previously obtained an existing Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency. Please provide a copy of your MROCP Certificate to the Maritime Commercial Course Co-ordinator when returning your enrolment form.
Please Note:
- Your position will not be confirmed until payment has been received.
- Course positions are limited. 100% attendance is required.
- Minimum dress standards apply to campus attendance: ie closed in shoes be worn (no
sandals, thongs or bare feet), neat casual attire. Shorts and t-shirts are
acceptable.
