Combined Tanker Safety (Petroleum, Gas, Chemical)

Made up of units: S5346, S5344, S5345

AIM
Provides participants with the knowledge to carry out the safe handling, transportation, loading, discharging and care in transit of bulk liquid chemicals, cargo in oil tankers and liquefied gas in cargo operations.

Aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of safe practices and environmental awareness, and to enable personnel to supervise and train other personnel in operational procedures. Each component can be done separately. This course meets the requirements of STCW95 and is AMSA approved.

Those looking to improve tanker safety.

  • Tanker cargoes (crude, product, chemical and gases), including chemical and physical properties
  • Tanker types (oil, chemical and gas)
  • Legislative requirements

  • Chemical tanker loading and discharging operations
  • Gas tanker loading and discharging operations

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Prerequisites:

  • Petroleum Tanker: Nil
  • Chemical and/or Gas Tanker:
    • A Petroleum Tanker Safety course from an approved training organisation
    • A certificate in Elementary First Aid (or Senior First Aid), and
    • A certificate in Advanced Fire Fighting.

Copies of certificates must be provided to Administration staff when enrolling. Students are able to attend single components if required, provided they have the Prerequisites.

  • Course positions are limited. 100% attendance is required
  • Minimum dress standards apply to campus attendance: ie closed in shoes be worn (no sandals, thongs or bare feet), neat casual attire.
