This training program provides partial completion of the Metals and Engineering Training Package MEM05 qualification MEM40105. The focus is on the Coded Welding specialisation within the Fabrication post trade. Training is conducted in a work simulated environment utilising equipment and consumables aligning to industry practice in accordance with Australian and International standards.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is designed for people interested in gaining higher welding qualifications. With the necessary industry welding experience as a pre-requisite you could be classified as a fully coded Welder in codes such as ASME, AS1554, 1 SP or AS1796 Certificates 1 to 9. Pre-requisite: 5 years industry welding/heavy fabrication experience.
CONTENT
- For some codes, for example AS1796 you will need to complete a theory assessment
- Instruction on code requirements
- All welds will be visually assessed
- Day 8-10 will cover the practical examination and if required the theory
assessment
OUTCOMES
This qualification is designed to reflect the role of team leaders and Supervisors in the industry sector. As a result of attending this training, participants will be:
- Able to obtain employment in the welding industry as a coded welder
- Eligible to be recognised by the Welding Institute of Australia if AS1796 Code requirements are completed
- Eligible to enrol in the Welding Supervisors and Inspectors courses if
the AS1796 Code requirements are completed

FURTHER TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Further educational opportunities are available through the completion of the MEM40105 Certificate IV in Engineering qualification.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Dress requirements pertaining to oh&s legislation are mandatory for participation in the course.
- Safety goggles, safety boots, long sleeved shirt and pants must be worn at all times. Failure to comply will result in personnel not being able to participate.
