Kadadjiny Mia Centre for Aboriginal Learning was established with the aim to increase the participation of Aboriginal and Islander people in all areas of the Institute. The Centre also provides an essential focus and student support at the College for Aboriginal people as well as provide an Aboriginal and Islander perspective across campus.
Indigenous / Aboriginal Training Programs
We are focussed on providing you with relevant training opportunities that will help you:

Many of our programs include cultural studies and activities such as excursions and visits and our lecturers are experienced in adapting the different learning techniques of Aboriginal people to our courses.

7132 CERTIFICATE IN GAINING ACCESS TO TRAINING AND EDUCATION (GATE)
This course is delivered over one semester. The main purpose of this course is to develop literacy (reading and writing), numeracy (maths), problem solving and job search skills for those people in the community who require additional or different programs to maximise their further vocational training and employment opportunities.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and 16 years of age or over. Where necessary, selection will be by informal interview in order to assess each applicant’s suitability.

C612 CERTIFICATE III IN ABORIGINAL VISUAL ARTS
C613 CERTIFICATE IV IN ABORIGINAL VISUAL ARTS
C624 CERTIFICATE III IN VISUAL ARTS AND CONTEMPORARY CRAFT
The aim of the three sequential courses is to provide an opportunity for Aboriginal people to develop their artistic skills in order to reflect an awareness of their own identity, culture and pride in their Aboriginality.
The three courses are also aimed to enable graduates to eventually achieve professional level status as an artist and develop relevant employment skills such as self-employment options and also conducting visual arts, community or business ventures.
Subjects include Drawing, Design, Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking and Studio Practice.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and 16 years of age or over. Where necessary selection will be by informal interview in order to assess each applicant’s suitability.

C495 CERTIFICATE II IN TOURISM (OPERATIONS)
This course will offer students many practical skills which will reflect the role of employees who perform a range of duties in the Tourism/Guiding industry.
It is anticipated that course graduates will be able to help design and deliver tour commentaries and tour packages for client groups.
Minimum Entrance Requirements
Completion of Year 10 with an average level of 3.5 in four learning areas including English and Mathematics.
