About these courses

These courses serve as general bridging programs for those who wish to gain the academic requirements necessary to enter vocational areas of study, the Police or Defense Force, or to complement study in other vocational areas. The courses also benefit those who wish to enhance skills for personal, employment or community purposes.

Programs are offered at each certificate level of the CGEA, with each level usually requiring one semester of full-time study to complete. The courses aim to develop skills in reading, writing, numeracy and computing, as well as in a variety of areas to meet personal needs, and to facilitate participation in the community, workplace and further education and training.

Emphasis is on building self-esteem and gaining confidence through a supportive and encouraging learning environment. Students are encouraged to work through the subject areas at their own pace. CGEA classes are usually delivered 3 -4 days a week and the course is designed to fit within school hours and school terms.

Students who complete 7070 Certificate II in General Education for Adults qualify for the well-developed skills (***) benchmark in Maths and Communication skills for entry purposes to further vocational training.
