The CGEA course is for students who:
- are looking for a fresh start
- have had a break from the workforce and would like to update their skills
- are looking for a career change
- wish to achieve an academic standard required to enter vocational training
- did not complete school
About these courses
These courses serve as general bridging programs for those who wish to gain the academic requirements necessary to enter vocational areas of study, the Police or Defense Force, or to complement study in other vocational areas. The courses also benefit those who wish to enhance skills for personal, employment or community purposes.
Programs are offered at each certificate level of the CGEA, with each level usually requiring one semester of full-time study to complete. The courses aim to develop skills in reading, writing, numeracy and computing, as well as in a variety of areas to meet personal needs, and to facilitate participation in the community, workplace and further education and training.
Emphasis is on building self-esteem and gaining confidence through a supportive and encouraging learning environment. Students are encouraged to work through the subject areas at their own pace. CGEA classes are usually delivered 3 -4 days a week and the course is designed to fit within school hours and school terms.
Students who complete 7070 Certificate II in General Education for Adults qualify for the well-developed skills (***) benchmark in Maths and Communication skills for entry purposes to further vocational training.
Entrance Requirements for CGEA
There are no entrance requirements for these courses, however if the course is tailored to meet the needs of a specific target group, then preference will be given to people who fall within the target group.

YARP – Youth Access Re-engagement Program
CGEA Certificate II Online
This is an off-campus course for students who prefer to learn independently through the internet, at their own pace and in their own time.
Each student has an online tutor to encourage and motivate the student through the course. All units of the CGEA II are available through this online course, and students may enrol in all or part of the course.
Enrolment is available throughout the year and students have six months to complete the course from the enrolment date.
