CHALLENGER SERVES UP ANOTHER TOURISM WIN
Challenger Institute of Technology has received top honours at the WA Tourism Awards for its hospitality and tourism training.
Claiming the gold medal in the education and training category on Saturday night, Quinlan’s Hospitality and Tourism Training Centre was recognised for its industry-driven, community focused training program.

Challenger Institute managing director Liz Harris said Quinlan’s had set a new benchmark for hospitality and tourism training in Western Australia.
“This honour cements Challenger Institute’s reputation as a centre of training excellence,” Ms Harris said.
“Our hospitality and tourism training is the best in Western Australia, with Quinlan’s Training Restaurant winning a prestigious Gold Plate Award last month – making Challenger Institute the first training organisation in WA to win a Gold Plate Award three times.
“Our marine tourism program has also been hailed as the best in WA for the past three years, and at the awards ceremony last Saturday our WA Maritime Training Centre was inducted into the WA Tourism Hall of Fame.”
Quinlan’s Hospitality and Tourism Training Centre program manager Markus Beuke said the centre’s gold medal at the WA Tourism Awards came after receiving the silver medal in previous years.
“This award is confirmation that we are on top of our game,” Markus said. “It is recognition of all the hard work the staff put in to ensure our training is of a very high standard and industry relevant.
“Quinlan’s has a dedicated team of staff who are flexible, responsive, industry-focused and not satisfied with second best.”
Also at the WA Tourism Awards, Challenger hospitality student Stacey Miller was a finalist in the Sir David Brand Young Achievers Award, which honours a young person who has consistently contributed to the positive image of tourism.
The gala awards night was held at Burswood Entertainment Complex on 20 November. Medals were awarded to West Australian tourism-related agencies and projects across 26 categories.
