For Teachers & Advisers

As teachers we want the best for our students and we want to see them reach their maximum potential.

TAFE qualifications can provide an exciting and rewarding career for your students.

TAFE is more than just the 'tech down the road' where you used to go to learn a trade or study for tertiary entrance examinations.

Challenger Institute, spread along the coastline from Fremantle to Mandurah, offers more than 140 careers from…

  • Hotel Manager to Engineer,
  • Website Developer to Ship's Captain,
  • Aquaculture Technician to Tour Guide

Teaching is delivered in a variety of ways: on campus, on-line, open learning or through the flexible blending of these delivery methods and is combined with practical work experience which ensures graduates skills are highly valued by employers. Challenger Institute graduates are "job ready".

INDUSTRY RELEVANT COURSES

The Institute has several industry training centres which are closely aligned to the needs of industry and the community. This means that our training is highly relevant to the needs of employers, regardless of whether students are studying towards a full qualification or a specific skill.

  • Australian Centre for Energy & Process Training
  • Automotive Technology Skills Centre
  • Community Services Training Centre
  • Construction Industry Skills Centre
  • Information Technology & Business Skills Centre

Specialist Training Venues

At Challenger Institute we aim to provide training that gives students skills that closely match those needed in their future workplace. That is why we have a number of dynamic specialised training venues known as 'live works'. These specialised training venues offer students hands-on and industry-relevant opportunities beyond traditional learning avenues, in an actual work environment, with actual customers. The customers patronising the venues benefit too: with quality services and products that are often offered at reduced prices.

Challenger Institute currently has the following 'live works' venues:

  • Visage Health and Beauty Clinics. Offering beauty therapy treatments and natural therapies including massage, aromatherapy and naturopathy (Fremantle, Beaconsfield and Mandurah campuses).
  • Visage Hairdressing Salon. Offering a full-range of hairdressing services, including cuts, colour and hair treatments (Beaconsfield Campus).
  • Quinlan's Cafe on High. Open for lunch from Monday to Friday (cnr High Street and Mouat Street, Fremantle).
  • Quinlan's Training Restaurant. Open for lunch (Tuesday to Friday) and dinner (Monday to Friday) Beaconsfield Campus.
  • Challenger K9 - Day care and day spa for dogs at our Murdoch campus.

TAFE GRADUATES GET JOBS

Recent research shows that 89% of Challenger Institute school-leaver graduates were employed after their course. This is an exceptional outcome for TrainingWA graduates and is an obvious indicator of the success of our training.

A PATHWAY TO UNIVERSITY

Challenger Institute can also provide a pathway to university. A Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) is not the only means of entry to university in Western Australia. A significant number of TrainingWA graduates, particularly those with Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas, gain admission to Australian universities each year. Once graduates have gained admission into university, they may be eligible for advanced standing or credit for their previous TrainingWA studies. This can mean a saving in time and thousands of dollars on HECS fees! In addition, Challenger Institute has joint campuses with Murdoch University, at Peel and Rockingham, which greatly assists students to move between TAFE and University.

UNI to TAFE

More than 20 percent of TAFE students are university graduates. Many of these students have chosen a TAFE course to upskill or reskill to help them gain a promotion or to change their career.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN SCHOOLS

Students can get a taste for TAFE by studying vocational education and training (VET) subjects while at school. This also helps students gain knowledge and skills relevant to finding a job. Through VET, students acquire demonstrable competencies, participate in workplace programs and may even start in traineeships while still at school.

Since 1998, Challenger Institute has worked with more than 40 schools. Our partnerships include:

  • Certificate II in Leadership through school-based cadet programs, with community projects used for assessments.
  • School-based traineeships.
  • Compacts between schools which maximise opportunities for students to gain nationally recognised qualifications and utilise specialist resources more effectively.
  • Combinations of school-based and Challenger Institute delivery.
