BIG challenger CHECKOUT

The Big Challenger Checkout program is offered by the WA Horticulture and Environmental Science Skills Centre of Challenger Institute (Murdoch Campus) and is aimed at Year 10, 11 and 12 secondary students looking for an opportunity to "taste" a variety of courses.

The main objectives of the "TASTER courses" are to:

  • Build student confidence in further studies by providing information which will help them to make the right choices in their training and their future.
  • Give students from regions with low uptake of post-compulsory school studies an opportunity to access training applicable to their needs.
  • Provide students with training choices through broad practical experience.
  • Encourage interest in the high employment trade vocations in Australia and university articulation.
  • Provide better linkage between the school and training sectors.
  • Provide students with "hands on" learning in a practical teaching environment.
  • Promote stronger relationships between government and the private sector through recognition of their common interest in a well trained work force.
  • Promote an Institute qualification as a serious and workwise alternative to a University qualification.
  • Meet industry demand for a skilled labour force.

We offer half, one or two-day workshops in:

  • Horticulture
  • Floristry
  • Conservation and Land Management
  • Irrigation
  • Environmental Science
  • Applied Science
  • Wool Technology
  • Animal Studies

Big Challenger Checkout is supported with funding from the Education and Training Participation Plan.
